Kevin Mwachiro

Kevin Mwachiro

Kevin Mwachiro is a Kenyan writer, podcaster, journalist, and queer activist. He has authored Invisible - Stories from Kenya's Queer Community and was part of the editorial team for Boldly Queer - African Perspectives on Same-sex Sexuality and Gender Diversity. Kevin's most recent work of fiction is the short story Number Sita, published in the anthology Nairobi Noir. His play, Thrashed, is part of the Goethe Institut's "Six and the City" collection. In 2017, he launched a story-telling podcast called Nipe Story, which produces audio versions of short-story fictional stories from the African continent. Kevin is also a co-founder of the Out Film Festival, the first LGBTQI film festival in East Africa. He currently serves on the boards of PEMA Kenya, a grassroots LGBQTI organisation, and Amnesty International-Kenya.

Zippy Kimundu

Zippy Kimundu is an award-winning Kenyan Filmmaker who has been working in the global industry for nearly two decades. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from New York University and has worked globally in over 20 countries. She co-directed a short Documentary, 'a fork, a spoon & a KNIGHT' with renowned Director Mira Nair, was the Assistant Editor on the Disney Film 'Queen of Katwe' and her short film 'Mercy' leads the 'Think Twice Movement'.

Her award winning Feature Documentary 'Our Land, Our Freedom' premiered at IDFA/Sheffield in 2023 and her 2025 release 'Widow Champion' premiered at Hotdocs/Tribeca and continues to create global impact.

Zippy is a Sundance, Chicken & Egg, Logan Elevate/IDA, IDFA, Hotdocs, World Cinema Fund/ACP and Ford Foundation fellow, who has worked with numerous organisations including Universal studios, Nelson Mandela Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, UN, World Bank, US State Department, British council, BBC, Google, British Red Cross, among others.

She is the Creative Director, a Film Educator at https://www.illtellyoumystory.com, the co-founder at www.terracekilifi.com and Founder at www.afrofilmsinternational.com, a creative collective working to ignite socio-political consciousness and action, across continents.

Mumo Liku

Mumo Liku loves the colours blue and green, but only in their darker shades. A natural-born organiser, passionate about entrepreneurs and their empowerment, he holds a BA in Communications from Daystar University, and an MA in Creative Enterprise from University of Reading, UK. A huge fan of rice and coconut beans, he can also be found dancing enchantingly, meeting new and interesting people, and generally adventuring outdoors.

Saitabao Kaiyare

Saitabao Kaiyare

Saitabao Kaiyare often seen wearing jewellery traditional to his Maasai people, and symbols of ancestral calling and guidance, he holds a Certificate in Film Design, from Filmakademie, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany and a BA in ICT from Kenya Methodist University. With an uproarious sense of humour that celebrates the absurd, Saita believes that playfulness and laughter are important tools to bring to work and life, especially when there are heavy topics at hand. He can be found eating Viazi Karai, biryani, Nyama choma, or taking walks among the trees.

Wakarima Wangui

Wakarima is an award-winning producer and storyteller with a Bachelor's degree in Film and Theatre Arts. She is passionate about authentic African cinema and has dedicated her career to championing stories that reflect the richness, complexity and beauty of African life. Her mission is simple but powerful; to help bring African stories by us, for us to audiences across the continent and around the world.

Beyond the screen, Wakarima is a natural community builder who thrives on creating spaces where collaboration, creativity, and culture meet. She has extensive experience in festival management, having worked on several cultural and film events that celebrate African storytelling and talent such as Slum Film Festival, Udada Film Festival and KITFest. In addition to her work in festivals, she also teaches film and theatre arts, where she mentors young creatives and inspires the next generation of African storytellers.

Whether she's producing films, curating conversations, or amplifying the voices of fellow filmmakers, Wakarima brings warmth, vision, and purpose to everything she does.

She's thrilled to be part of the festival's communications team this year and looks forward to a vibrant, connection-filled celebration of storytelling and creativity.

David Mwangi Mwenda

Strategic Finance and Operations Leader

David Mwangi Mwenda

David Mwangi Mwenda is a strategic finance and operations leader with sixteen years of experience building, scaling, and stabilizing organizations across East Africa and the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and is currently an ACCA finalist. He is also a Certified Learning and Development Professional.

David serves as the Lead Consultant at Mwangi Mwenda Consultancy a finance and operations advisory practice serving small and medium businesses across Kenya. The consultancy's work rests on a simple premise: sustainable financial and operational improvement is not something delivered to a business, but built into it. Every engagement, whether compliance clean-up, bookkeeping, or systems implementation, is paired with the transfer of skills, tools, and judgement to the owners and teams who will carry the business forward once the engagement ends.

Anthony Kariuki (Tony Kruz)

Anthony Kariuki, also known as Tony Kruz, is a communications, marketing and public relations professional with over 10 years of experience in cinematography, photography, branding, content management and strategic storytelling. He develops visual content and brand identities and strategies, manages content, and leads creative campaigns for NGOs, global organizations and media houses. His work combines creative production with communication strategy to create compelling stories, strengthen brands and drive meaningful impact.

He works with NGOs, social movements, global organisations, corporate brands and media houses, helping them communicate their ideas, strengthen their public image and connect with the audiences that matter most. His background combines hands-on creative production with strategic communications. He brings practical experience in pre-production, cinematography, photography, graphic design, video production and post-production, alongside expertise in media relations, crisis communication, stakeholder communication, campaign management and digital communications.

Bree Wangari

Bree Wangari

Bree Wangari is a storyteller, producer, and strategy consultant who helps founders, organisations, and creatives craft narratives that inspire action. With over 10 years of experience across Africa's startup ecosystem, including roles at Village Capital and Madica, and her start in media at Techpoint.africa, she has mentored founders and helped early-stage companies translate complex ideas into compelling narratives. Today, through CBK Studios, she brings that same strategic lens to visual and audio productions. Her approach unites business strategy with cinematic thinking to help people and organisations tell stories that connect, influence, and endure.

She is Partnerships and Development Director at Kilifi Creek Festival.

Dr. Vincenzo Cavallo

Director, Producer and Researcher

Dr. Vincenzo Cavallo

Dr. Vincenzo Cavallo, known as Dr. Faras in East Africa, is an award-winning director, producer and researcher working between Africa, Europe and Latin America. Italian by birth and Kenya-based for nearly two decades, he is co-founder of Cultural Video Foundation, Cultural Video Production and the Nairobi BUS collective, and has made feature films, XR experiences, documentary series and more than fifty documentaries.

His latest work, Ri-lancia Luigi Broglio (Re-Launching Luigi Broglio, 2025, 33'), is a 360° immersive theatrical experience and the sole recipient of the 75,000 euro grant of Biennale College Cinema - Immersive, 9th edition. Produced by Cultural Video Production with Silvia Gioiello and INVR.SPACE, it premiered at Venice Immersive during the 82nd Venice Film Festival and won Best 360° Experience at the European XR Awards (AIXR) in Brussels. It later had its Japanese premiere at the Kyoto Historica International Film Festival, where he held a masterclass for the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab, and was exhibited at M9 - Museo del '900 in Venice in 2026. The work revisits the story of the Italian engineer who launched his country into space in the 1960s from the first equatorial launch base, built on a sea platform off the Kenyan coast.

His feature Bufis - Daydreamers, co-directed with Mahad Ahmed and co-produced with Unafilm with support from the World Cinema Fund and the Red Sea Film Fund, streams worldwide on Netflix; it won the VFF award at the Berlinale Co-Production Market in 2019. He was a Berlinale Talent in 2018 and 2019, representing Kenya.

In 2020 he premiered African Space Makers at Venice XR, the first interactive XR series produced in Africa, which received the Lumiere Award for best direction, the XR Must Impact Award and a place among the three finalists of the VR NOW Award. Its rights were acquired by RAI-VR and it toured major Italian museums.

He produced Almost Somali (STEPS, ARTE France), winner of Best Continental Short Doc and available on arte.tv within Generation Africa, and The Baobab Whisperer (Big World Cinema) for Al Jazeera's Africa Direct. His web series Connection House won best direction at Roma Web Fest 2016 and best comedy at Berlin Web Fest 2017; his first feature WAZI?FM received the Golden Dhow at the Zanzibar International Film Festival. His twelve-episode series on Afro-Colombian music, Pasos de Cumbia, won the CNTV Chile and RTVC Colombia co-production awards.

He holds a Ph.D. in Communication and New Technologies from IULM University, obtained in 2010 after working for UN/DESA, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford on the ERC project ConflictNet. He publishes on ICT for development and on XR and public space in Africa.
